So, you jump in the shower after a long, sweaty day grooming squirrels and nothing comes out of your showerhead. Your first thought is “What the. . .?” Your second thought is “I have to wash this squirrel smell off!” What should you do? Call us! (505-234-5167) Hopefully, we will be able to tell you you have a couple of options. Best case scenario, your pump tripped off for some reason and we turn it back on and you are back in the shower in no time (we might even be able to instruct you over the phone how to fix your problem-for FREE!).
Worse case scenario, your well is dry. Don’t worry, you still have some options. You can have storage tank installed (by WWDR-we rock) and have one of the water hauling companies in the area haul water to you regularly or possibly haul your own water. Another option is you can drill a new, deeper well. This is probably your most expensive option, even if your driller (hopefully WWDR-we love squirrels!) is smart, frugal, and looking out for you and reuses as much of your existing system as possible. Your final option (well, not really your final. You could always move. I hear places back East have lots of water) is to possibly deepen the well.
The ability to deepen a well is dependent on a couple of factors. The first factor is hiring a driller who knows what they are doing. It can be a bit risky; drillers can get their equipment stuck in your well (which can stink, but since your well wasn’t producing water anyways maybe you are ok with it). The second factor is the condition of your well. It needs to be larger than a certain diameter, and preferably cased completely with PVC. It also needs to be accessible; meaning we need to be able to get our rig to the well and over it (this is an important decision making step when you are having your well drilled originally, which we can discuss in another post). Finally, your well can’t already be ridiculously deep. The ideal well for deepening is between 0 and 350 feet (that way we can really improve upon the situation).
